Resources for Webmasters

The following resources are intended to help your webmasters maintain your department websites. You may want to seek the assistance of the IT support or webmaster for your unit to carry out the steps.

Release notes and a searchable inventory of existing online giving links are available on DevNet.

Resources

Online Giving URLs

Please make sure your webmasters are using links with the supported syntax (starting with www.giving.umich.edu/give/_____). If your website's online giving button is using a link that starts with "kintera.org" or "dartbbnc...." or in some cases "leadersandbest..." you may be using an invalid link that is not supported. By using our supported links, you'll ensure that all future upgrades to the online giving system will be seamless on your website. An inventory of all existing links can be found on DevNet.

Web Fonts

Button font: matching Avenir
Avenir (a U-M recommended font) is a geometric sans-serif typeface similar to Futura. For the MOG site we chose to use Questrial as our display font for headlines, subheads and buttons. Questrial is an open source font available through the free Google Fonts API that is similar to Avenir.

Using a web font
There are several ways to use a web font from google. Check out their page on Getting Started for more information.

Our code available below includes the font using @import in a css style tag in the page head but the code could also go in a linked CSS stylesheet. Once the font is linked it can be included in the css font-family declaration (font-family:Questrial, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;)

Note: When specifying a web font in a CSS style, always list at least one fallback web-safe font such as Helvetica, Arial, or sans-serif.

Download the code here. (Once the style guide displays in a new window, right click and select "View Source")

"Give Now" solicitation buttons

When to use them
A solicitation button should include a call to action such as "GIVE NOW," “Donate Now," or "Be a victor" The button should link to an online donation form, for example www.giving.umich.edu/give/lsa.

We recommend using no more than 2-3 words in the call to action for the button text.

Color
We recommend reserving the maize color (Hex #FFCB05) for solicitation buttons.

URL to use
This URL will change depending where this button lives on your website. Please see the section above for more information on supported syntax. We recommend checking the inventory on DevNet to find the most appropriate link for you. We have included a few samples below:
